Patrick Podpadec

Patrick PodpadecI started my career as a luthier in the early 80's by apprenticing with master luthier Rod Fitts. He owned a small, but respected, repair shop in Jefferson, Ohio. He was one of a select few authorized repairmen in the area for companies like Gibson, Fender, Ovation, Martin, and Mossman where he was one of their head repair technicians in the mid to late 70's.

It was an honor and great pleasure to work under his tutelage for almost 2 1/2 years.

During my apprenticeship I learned many aspects of the repair business, from adjusting the height of the strings at the nut, to rebinding and refinishing a sunburst guitar.

As this website grows I plan to have the repair pages loaded with many photos of my repairs, jigs, and so forth. I have always been impressed with the fine luthiers who are willing to share there expertise in the field with those who are interested. I believe that, by sharing information, more of it seems to return. I'm not sure exactly how to explain that phenomenon, but it seems to be the case with my life.

For the past 25 years I have been blessed with the ability to repair and build a few extraordinary instruments for friends and local working musicians. I hope to add your name to this ever growing list of happy customers.

I have been working as a contributing writer for a local entertainment magazine called the “North Coast Voice” since April of 09.Many fine articles about repair have developed from this venture.  I have convienetly named each article by the major topic in each volume. You can also download free copies of the articles here on this site . You can also read the articles online along with many other fine articles on music and events in the North East Ohio area. Please give them  a visit sometme www.northcoastvoice.com.

Patrick PodpadecI am also a member of G.A.L. ( Guild of American Luthiers ) www.luth.org.

This is a fine organization that has invaluable information through it's website and it's by-monthly magazine. I find myself constantly going back through the many years of publications to reread the articles that I forgot about. I can't thank the orginization and staff enough for what I have learned from them and the other members. I highly recommend to join as a member if your the least bit interested in lutherie.
